Why Do We Gather?

At Citizens Church we meet regularly on Sunday mornings for gathered worship because we are invited to do so (Hebrews 4:16), we are called not to forsake the gathering (Hebrews 10:25), we aim to grow in the knowledge and understanding of God's word by encouraging one another through singing hymns, psalms, and spiritual songs (Colossians 3:16, Ephesians 5:19), and we know he is with us (Matthew 18:20).

We gather because God hasn't only saved us individually but he's saved and joined us together as his people (Ephesians 4, 1 Corinthians 12).

Christ-Centered Liturgy

The planning and intentionality of our liturgy and Sunday morning service help us focus and center our minds on the Lord Jesus Christ. This is something that the church has been doing for thousands of years.

Call to Worship

Helps hearts begin the act of gathered worship and points eyes to Jesus.

Creed Reciting

Unites us in faith and what we say we believe, unites us in the faith of those who have gone before, and keeps us from straying from the truths God has told regarding Himself in His word.

Singing

Songs anchored in scripture that teach about the things of God, in congregational keys comfortable for everyone to sing along with.

Prayer

Pastoral prayer before and after preaching. A time for people to receive prayer from the prayer team toward the end of service.

Preaching

Expositional preaching: book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. A deep dive into the meaning of God's word.

Communion

In response to preaching, we remember the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. Each Sunday its meaning, who is welcome, and how scripture calls us to come to the table is explained.

Benediction

A New Testament blessing as the congregation goes into the world.

Our gatherings typically last between 60 and 70 minutes.
